Prof. Cheuk Pak Tong
Director of Academy of Film, HKBU

In recent years, Prof. Cheuk Pak Tong has engaged in research on Film and Television. His acclaimed work, “Hong Kong New Wave Cinema, 1979-2000.”, was published by Intellect Ltd. (U.K.) and University of Chicago Press (U.S.) in 2008. His latest research focuses on Hong Kong Television and Globalization. Over the years, his articles were published in local and overseas press, journals and thesis such as “Post Script”, Publication of “Hong Kong International Film Festival”, “Film Arts”, “Unitas and Literary Monthly” and “Journal Beijing Film Academy” etc.
During his study in early 70s, he co-founded a film magazine, “Influence”, with his classmates in Taiwan, which made an important impact on new Taiwanese cinema in the 80s. As a columnist for years, his film reviews were mostly published in“Sing Tao Daily News”, “Cosmopolitan”, “Asian Week”, “United Daily News”, “TV Week Review”, “Home Video Magazine” and “ATV Week” etc. Books published by him include “Hong Kong Film Genres.” (with Law Kar and Ng Chun Bong), “A Concise History of Chinese Posters (1910-1940)”, and “The Empire of Shaw Brothers – The Imagination of the Cultural China.” (with LIAO, G.F., and YUNG, S. S.) etc.
As a senior producer and director of Telemovies Division, Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB), he produced a number of drama e.g. 《國際刑警》, 《的士司機》, 《第一次》, 《四眼神探》, 《女人三十》and 《霓虹姊妹花》as well as feature films of《煲車》 and 《賓妹》.
