Kazufumi Nagasawa

Kazufumi Nagasawa is Managing Director & Chief Content Officer at HJ Holdings Ltd. which owns and operates Hulu Japan. Kaz oversees all content related activities for the service. Kaz also plays leading role in strategic planning and partnership/alliance.

Kaz joined Hulu Japan as the Head of Content and Distribution in 2011 before the service launched as the first pure SVOD platform in Japan and has been the driving forth for the company to establish key partnership with both content and device partners.

Kaz also played a material role in the transition of the ownership of the company from Hulu LLC to Nippon TV (the No.1 terrestrial network in Japan) in 2014.

Kaz started his career at Booz, Allen & Hamilton as a researcher right after he graduated from Tokyo University where he received BE in resource engineering.

Kaz began his entertainment career at Disney’s Buena Vista Home Entertainment where he joined as the director of sales and marketing of live action films, and he expanded his responsibility to cover content acquisition and local production for the studio.

Hulu Japan is one of the most widely used SVOD platforms in Japan, with 2million+ paying subscribers (as of the end of March, 2019), and the service is owned and operated by HJ Holdings, Ltd., a joint venture among Nippon Television Network Corporation (Nippon TV) which owns majority share, Hulu LLC, Yahoo Japan, Toho, Yomiuri TV and Chukyo TV. Originally a subsidiary of Hulu, LLC, which launched its Japan service in September 2011, Hulu’s Japan business was fully acquired by Nippon TV in April 2014.
