Before founding nwStor in Hong Kong in 2007, Chan was a successful entrepreneur in Silicon Valley, USA. He was VP of Technology at Aarohi Networks which produced the market’s fastest virtual data storage management chip. Right before Aarohi, Chan was VP of Technology of Candera Inc. which shipped the industry’s first hardware based data storage virtualization and management appliance.

Before joining the two startups, Chan had over 20 years of experience in data storage architecture and development at IBM's data storage division at Silicon Valley. In addition, he is inventor of 20 granted patents and has numerous technical publications to his credit.
