Michael Lanz
CEO, designaffairs GmbH, Munich

Michael Lanz, born in 1965, studied Product Design at the University of Wuppertal, Germany. After his diploma he started his career 1991 as an industrial designer at the design department of the Siemens AG. In the following years he worked on various design projects in the sectors of medical and professional equipment, mobile and cordless phones as well as in advanced design.

In 1997 the design department was hived off from the Siemens AG to form the independent sub-company designaffairs.

From 2001 Michael Lanz was the responsible Manager for the design of all Gigaset Products and leading a team of 5 designers. In June 2005 he was assigned for the direction of the Color & Material Design Team and the affiliated Color & Material Lab. In this position Michael Lanz was responsible for trend research and for the development of color and material concepts as well as for their implementation.

Since 2007 Michael Lanz is one of the four new owners and managing directors of designaffairs.

During his time at Siemens/designaffairs Michael Lanz was granted with several prestigious design awards, among others the IF design award in gold and "best of category" and the red dot design award. Some of his designs are part of the permanent exhibition of the world-famous "Pinakothek der Moderne" in Munich, Germany.

In 2007/08 and 2010/11 Lanz worked as a visiting lecturer at the Technical University of Dresden. He regularly is also giving talks on design, design and innovation processes and design trends and was a jury-member of several well-known design awards, among others IF Material Design Award, Focus International Design Award and the Design Award of the Federal Republic of Germany.
