Nicholas Kwan is the Head of Research, East, responsible for a team of 14 economists and research professionals covering East Asia’s macro-economic developments. Nicholas joined Standard Chartered Bank in August 2005. His team is located across eight different Asian cities: Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, Taipei, Seoul, Bangkok, Singapore, and Jakarta. Nick leads his team of professionals in providing in-depth and timely macro-economic analysis to both internal and external stakeholders, with special emphasis on unique on-the-ground perspectives and financial issues specific to the Asian region. Based in Hong Kong, Nick was formerly with the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA), where he was a senior economist specialising in macro-economic and policy research. During his seven years with the HKMA, Nick participated widely in regional and international financial development projects such as the Asia Bond Fund. He also worked on issues related to the Bank for International Settlements, the Executives' Meeting of East Asia-Pacific Central Banks (EMEAP), and the Asian Development Bank, as well as various bilateral central bank issues. Prior to joining the HKMA, Nick was Merrill Lynch's Regional Chief Economist covering the Asia-Pacific region, based in Singapore for six years and then in Hong Kong from 1993 to 1998. He led his Merrill team to second place in the Institutional Investor Asian poll, and was instrumental to the launch of various landmark equity and debt issues, including China's first global bond and the first H-share and B-share IPOs. Nick is an economics graduate from the Chinese University of Hong Kong and holds an MBA from Warwick University in the UK. He is a Chartered Financial Analyst.
