Chief Executive Officer of Pinewood Iskandar Malaysia Studios Sdn Bhd
Rezal A. Rahman has been the Chief Executive Officer of Pinewood Iskandar Malaysia Studios (“the Studios”) since 1 July 2014. A collaboration between the Pinewood Group and Khazanah Nasional Berhad (“Khazanah”), the Malaysian government’s strategic investment arm, the Studios covers 80 acres with five Film Stages totaling 100,000 sq ft, ranging from 15,000 sq ft to 30,000 sq ft, three 5-acre backlots, and two 12,000 sq ft HD-ready TV Studios with a total audience capacity of 1,250. Under his leadership, the Studios’ credits include Netflix’s epic USD100 million TV series Marco Polo (Seasons 1 and 2) produced by The Weinstein Company, Chinese-funded and directed Lost in the Pacific, and FremantleMedia’s Asia’s Got Talent, one of the largest TV talent shows ever with over 300 acts from 15 countries across Asia Pacific, and broadcasted to over 25 countries. Additionally, in August 2014, he successfully developed a collaboration between the Studios and Astro Productions Sdn Bhd (APSB) to become the anchor producer for the TV Studios, committing 13,500 production hours over a 5-year period, resulting in successful Astro-produced Malaysian TV shows such as Projek Komedi, Elak-elak, Astro Star Quest and Chinese Golden Melodies to date. He played a key role in developing the Film In Malaysia Incentive (“FIMI”) to attract foreign productions to Malaysia with a 30% cash rebate for qualifying Malaysian spend. Rezal has a BS, BA and MS from Stanford University and an MBA from the Wharton School of Business, University of Pennsylvania.
