Even while Pixar, DreamWorks and Blue Sky have been earning record revenues for their CG-animated titles, independent companies around the globe have started to produce their own movies, often of a high quality and at a much lower budget.

This panel will examine the production and distribution market for these films. Are the prices coming down for these films? Can independents seriously compete with the $150m-plus budgets of the major companies? Where are the production hubs which can handle the animation and are they becoming more cost-effective? Will audiences accept a cheaper version of animation or are they spoiled on studio films? And is there a longterm revenue model for CG-animated films that is more favourable than the prognosis for live action films?
