Description:
Hong Kong is the world's second-largest clothing and apparel exporter after mainland China. With innovation design and quality products, the local industry has successfully established an up-market image worldwide. HKRITA is hosted by The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). They will draw on the research expertise of their host institute and technology partners to serve the highly competitive textiles and clothing clusters in Hong Kong and mainland China. Their core competencies include textile technology, textile chemistry, apparel technology, fashion and textile design, textile management, quality management, marketing, merchandising, and fashion retailing.

This talk will provide a brief introduction of magnetron sputtering method and its effects on textile materials. Performance of metal-coated materials such as mechanical and protection properties will be discussed, followed by technical developments for improving the physical treatment process. Potentials of magnetron sputtering method in textile and fashion will be revealed as a novel method of the design stage.
